Allen Braxton

Allen Braxton, a resident of Irmo, passed away at home on Wednesday evening, February 19, 2026, with his family by his side.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026, at Bush River Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212, with burial to follow at Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. 

Allen was born on January 30, 1947, in Columbia, South Carolina, to the late Ollie and Betty Braxton. He was a proud graduate of Eau Claire High School, Class of June 1967.

Allen dedicated 41 years of service as a technician at Westinghouse Nuclear Power Plant before retiring in 2012. He was affectionately known by his colleagues as “Bee-Bop” and “Big Al.”

When he was not spending time with his family, Allen could often be found fishing on the Broad River, one of his favorite pastimes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Cathy Dean of Texas.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Alice Braxton; his daughters, Alison Burgess (Kyle) of Chapin and Tiffany McVey of Irmo; his two grandchildren, Mason Burgess and Christian McVey and a sister, Diane Brooks of Buffalo, SC.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Heart of Hospice for the compassionate care provided over the last six months. The nurses and staff were truly wonderful.
