Betty Lou Mayfield, 87, passed away peacefully March 20, 2026.

Born in Newberry, South Carolina, she was the daughter of Lounell “Nell” Dominick Oswald and Rudolph “Rudy” Arnold Oswald. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother.

A graduate of Dreher High School, she later obtained her Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. Betty dedicated many years of service and retired from the Employment Security Commission and later returned to the workforce at Midlands Technical College, Beltline Campus, serving as an evening coordinator.

A passionate animal lover, she enjoyed spending time with her two dogs, Mr. G and Ginger, and donated to many animal charities throughout the years.

Betty was an avid gardener and took great pride in maintaining an immaculately landscaped yard and beautifully decorated home. She shared many memories with her two Aunts, Ms. Virgina Abrams and Ms. Bill Pinson.

Ms. Mayfield found great joy in simple pleasures in her later years, including playing bingo with friends, and visiting with her niece Connie, and Connie’s children and grandchildren.

Betty will be remembered for her warmth, independence, and kind generous spirit.
