Mrs. Christine “Chris” Anne Bailey Paddock passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026. Chris was born on March 13, 1949, in Long Beach, California, to Colonel Almarion Scott Bailey and Katherine Gene Goddard Bailey. She lived in many other locations, including Kailua, Hawaii; Arlington, Virginia; Columbia, Maryland; and Raleigh, North Carolina, and for the past 44 years, Irmo, South Carolina.
She is survived by her husband, John Paddock; her children, Sharon (Mark) Rosenfield, Kathryn Paddock, Kelly (Lyn) Powell, and John (Emy) Paddock; her grandchildren, Hannah and Hayley Rosenfield, Grace and Carter Parrish, and Ella and Benjamin Paddock; her sisters, Beth Hill and Sue (Richard) Reilly; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Teri Bailey, Jenny Bailey, Jo Lee Paddock, Fred Paddock, and Jennie Paddock; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Scott and Katy Bailey; her brothers, Bob and Scott Bailey; her parents-in-law, Bill and Eulala Paddock; her brothers-in-law, Bob Hill, Bill and Thirston Paddock; and her sister-in-law, Linda Paddock.
Chris met the love of her life and beloved husband, John, at Methodist College, and they were married for nearly 55 years. They loved to dance and sing together and to spend time with family and friends. While Chris maintained a career for the first part of her adult life, her life’s work centered on being present for her children and grandchildren. She was a strong person with a deep sense of faith, which helped her overcome leukemia in her late 40s, enabling her to spend many cherished years with her grandchildren and family.
Chris touched the lives of many with her profound sense of humor and her warm, generous, loving, and outgoing nature. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, an adored grandmother, and a cherished sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She knew no strangers and had an uncanny ability to connect with almost anyone. Her love of life, engaging smile, and warm blue eyes captured the hearts of everyone around her.
Although Chris is gone, her warmth and love for others will continue to inspire us to treat everyone with respect and to love with our whole hearts. She will live on within all of us forever.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Bush River Funeral Home Chapel in Columbia, South Carolina. (5400 Bush River Rd, Columbia, SC 29212)
