Daniel James Hatfield III, age 86, of Lexington, SC, passed away on May 28, 2026, in Lexington peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones.
He was born on July 4, 1939, in Rembert, SC “Pisgah Crossroads” to Ruth & DJ Hatfield Jr. He graduated from Central High School and associates from Midlands Technical College (1973-1975) and later married Barbara T. Hatfield on December 7, 1957. For 66.5 years, Dan enlisted in the Airforce in 1957 – 1961 being stationed in Bermuda as the first stop in Dan & Barbara’s life journeys. He then worked in sales for insurance and tobacco companies until he found his passion as a Petroleum equipment representative for more than 50 years and ended his career at Jack Pittman & Associates for 28 years’ service. He loved his work and always said, “you have to love what you do to be successful and happy”.
He was known for his great personality, love and dedication to his family, and his love for Gamecock Football and the other University of South Carolina sports. He was a scholarship and half scholarship donor for many years. Attending all home football games and tailgating with family and friends was his passion and most fulfilling times in his life. Dan was a person that everyone enjoyed being around, and he was referred to as Old man Hatfield” , “Dan the Man” and “Wild man Dan” to many of his colleagues. He had the biggest heart and was so generous to people in need and he would always leave a big tip for any server that waited on him. His generosity throughout his life was felt by so many people and passed down as a family trait. His travels throughout life often led him to any Waffle House that he passed and continued after retirement at the one right up the street from his house.
He is survived by his daughter Amy H. Flores (Robert Flores husband), Grandchild Brittany Windish, Great grandchild Carson Truell and many very special brother & sister in laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. Dan also loved his fur babies Chase, Chewbacca and Riley. He was preceded in death by Wife – Barbara T. Hatfield, Daughter – Kimberley H. Trybala, Son in Law – Arthur Trybala, Dad - Daniel James Hatfield Jr., Mom - Ruth S. Hatfield, Brother and sister in law - James Burdick (Evelyn Burdick), Sister - Carolyn Hancock.
A visitation will be held on June 2, 2026 from 10:00am to 11:00am in the welcome center at St. Andrews Baptist Church located at 230 Bush River Rd, Columbia, SC 29210. The funeral service will follow on June 2, 2026, at 11:15 at, St. Andrews Baptist Church sanctuary located at 230 Bush River Rd, Columbia, SC 29210 with Pastor Jace Broadhurst officiating. There will not be a graveside service.

American Diabetes Association. Dan was a diabetic for over 50 years, and he would appreciate donations in his honor to continue research for cures and better ways to control diabetes. He also was a veteran and wanted his family and friends to donate to Tunnel to Towers Foundation @ t2t.org and give in his honor.
