David M. Okinaga

David M. Okinaga, 72, of Irmo, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023. He was born in Bridgeton, New Jersey, on May 12, 1951, to Jack H. Okinaga and Chieko (Minamiji) Okinaga. David spent 35 years in law enforcement. His first 25 years were in Ohio, in Erie County and then in Perkins Township. He then moved to South Carolina and was a 15-year veteran of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD). He was a Special Operations and SWAT Team Commander and retired in 2007. David was a member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church. David passions included working out, scuba diving, shooting, flying, and fishing. David is survived by his sisters, M. Jacquelyn Hescock and Kathryn Okinaga-Gipe (Duane) and by his nieces, Laura Skaggs (Mark) and Halayn Hescock (Ted), and nephew, Nathan Hescock (Julie). A memorial service for David M. Okinaga will be held at Riverland Hills Baptist Church in Irmo on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 11:00 am officiated by Rev. Ryan Pack. David will be inurned at Bush River Memorial Gardens Angels Columbarium following the service. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
