Debra Jean Bailey

Debra Jean Bailey, 69, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024. Born on January 16, 1955, in Moultrie, GA, Debra was the daughter of Carolyn Gaffney and the late Edsel Fussell. She was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and later moved on to become a department manager for J.B. White, until the birth of her daughter, Lauren. Debra was a devoted mother whose main goal was to care for her daughter and to be there to share every little moment. She volunteered at Lauren’s school and was also a member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church. Debra is survived by her mother, Carolyn Gaffney, of Aiken, SC; daughter, Lauren Bailey, of Columbia, SC; brothers, Christopher Fussell and Tim Gaffney and sisters, Dawn Anderson.and Susan Trueblood. She was preceded in death by her father, CDR Edsel Fussell and her husband of 23 years, Samuel H. Bailey. The visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Temples-Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, South Carolina, prior to services. A graveside service will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, South Carolina at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choosing.
