Geraldine Geri Rhodes Pressley

COLUMBIA—Geraldine “Geri” Rhodes Pressley, 87, died Monday, January 4, 2016. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Temples Halloran Funeral Home Chapel, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212.Conducted by the Reverend Dr. Ronald “Dee” Vaughan and Revered Fred DeFoor, Jr. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored if memorials would be made to St. Andrews Baptist Church, 230 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29210. Mrs. Pressley, beloved wife of the late E. Lytle Pressley, Sr., for 64 years was born in Newberry, SC. She was the daughter of the late Virgil Newton and Bertha Smith Rhodes.Mrs. Pressley graduated from Chester High School, class of 1945 and attended the University of South Carolina. She worked for a number of years as an Executive Secretary for The American Legion State Headquarters.For more than 26 years, Geri was a faithful volunteer at the Brian Center Nursing Facility.In addition she served in the Meals on Wheels program.Early on she was involved in school activities and was awarded a Life Membership in the S.C. Parent-Teacher Association.Mrs. Pressley was active in several garden clubs, with the most recent participation in the Golden Hills Garden Club. Mrs. Pressley was a member of St. Andrew’s Baptist Church for more than 47 years.During this time she served as Sunday School teacher and was active in the Women’s Missionary Union.For a number of years she worked in the tutoring program both at the church and in the public schools.Mrs. Pressley served on numerous committees and was an active member of the Joy Singers. Surviving are her son, E. Lytle Pressley II of Austin, TX, Sam and Sandra Pressley of Columbia, SC and Newt and Cherie Pressley of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Warren, Harrison (Leslee) and Madeleine Pressley, Page (Velvet), Olympia Nevada and Paloma; great-grandchildren, Brentley and Page; sister, Ruth Mobley of Columbia, SC.She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and her sister, Edith Smith.
