Hunter William Hartung (22) of Lexington passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
Hunter was a loving son, grandson, brother, uncle, and nephew as well as a loyal friend.
A memorial service to celebrate Hunter will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Christian Life Church in the Brown Chapel on 2700 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29210, where he attended. The family will receive friends immediately following. Bush River Memorial Gardens will be assisting with arrangements.
A native of Lexington, SC, Hunter was born on December 29, 2003, to Jeffrey Edward Hartung Sr. and Cynthia Lynn Hartung.
Our beloved Hunter had a gentle, easy-going nature. He was a dynamic athlete, wildly creative, and a die-hard Gamecock fan. He possessed a quiet, but wicked sense of humor that could usually be found displayed on the front of one of his many silly t-shirts.
Hunter was a member of the Lexington High School Cross Country and Track and Field teams. Upon graduation in 2022, Hunter received a scholarship to Lander University, where he ran cross country for one season before transferring to the University of South Carolina, where he studied Sport and Entertainment Management. He was planning to graduate in December 2026.
Fiercely loved by his family, Hunter is survived by his parents, Jeffrey Hartung Sr. married to Sonja Hartung and Cynthia May married to Greg May; his paternal grandmother Charlotte Hartung and maternal grandparents William and Susan DeBlaay; siblings Holly Faulkenberry (Josh), Jeffrey Hartung Jr., and Susan Hartung. He also leaves behind bonus siblings Tanner, Ethan, and Kate Davis; bonus grandparents Tom and Jayne Gurley, several loving aunts, uncles, including Karin and Brian Bello, and cousins Ben and Sam Bello; his beloved nephew Liam Faulkenberry; and two devoted dogs, Jackson and Sadie. Hunter is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Edward W. Hartung Jr., and his aunt Jennifer Ann Hartung.
In lieu of flowers please donate to Lexington High School Booster Club, in memory of Hunter.
