Jocelyn Marie de Kozlowski, 47, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026 following a long battle with brain cancer. Born in 1978 in Knoxville, TN, Jocelyn — lovingly known as “Joce” or “Jocie” — brought joy, warmth, and love to everyone who knew her.
Even after suffering major brain damage shortly after birth, Joce lived a life filled with happiness, affection, and delight in the simple things she loved most. Her favorite activities included riding the carousel at the mall, swinging on swings, listening to music — especially the song Wild Thing — going on “hikes” with her family, sitting on the beach with the waves washing up on her feet, and talking about buses, boats, and balloons. She was rarely seen without her beloved beads. Her bright spirit, loving nature, and joyful enthusiasm touched family members, friends, caregivers, and all who spent time with her.
Jocie will be deeply missed by her father, Steven J. de Kozlowski and his wife Mary Ebmeier Gernand; her brothers, Jeffrey Kazimir de Kozlowski and his wife Melora of Raleigh, NC and Michael Steven de Kozlowski and his wife Sandra of Fort Mill, SC; her aunt, Janet Hoehn Paschall and her husband Ed of Wilmington, DE, as well as many loving extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Sandra Alice de Kozlowski; her sister, Catherine Sarah de Kozlowski; and her mother, Alice Janette Hoehn de Kozlowski.
Her family is deeply grateful for the compassion and care shown by her caregivers; by the staff of Hope Bridge Adult Daycare, whose kindness enriched her life for over 24 years; by the doctors and nurses at MUSC in Charleston who guided her through her cancer treatments; and by the many teachers and assistants in the Lexington 5 School District who supported and encouraged her throughout her school years.
