Irmo

John Gamble Paddock, 77, of Irmo, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2026. John was born on September 8, 1949, in Englewood, New Jersey, to Bill and Eulala Paddock. He graduated from Methodist College, where he met the love of his life, Christine "Chris" Bailey. They were married for nearly 55 years. His career in sales took the family from Arlington, Virginia, to Columbia, Maryland, and Raleigh, North Carolina, before they settled in Irmo, South Carolina where John called home for the past 44 years.

John and Chris loved to dance and sing together, and they treasured their summer trips to Topsail Island and time spent with family and friends. John loved golf and regularly played with his twin brother, Fred, for leisure as well as for charity fundraising. John touched countless lives with his warm, generous, and outgoing nature. He always had a joke ready, and his big laugh and love of life won over everyone around him. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a cherished brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Chris; his parents; his brothers, Bill and Thirston Paddock; his sister-in-law, Linda Paddock; his parents-in-law, Scott and Katy Bailey; and his brothers-in-law, Bob Bailey, Scott Bailey, and Bob Hill.

He is survived by his children, Sharon (Mark) Rosenfield, Kathryn Paddock, Kelly (Lyn) Powell, and John (Emy) Paddock; his grandchildren, Hannah and Hayley Rosenfield, Grace and Carter Parrish, and Ella and Benjamin Paddock; his twin brother, Fred Paddock; his sisters-in-law, Jo Lee Paddock, Jennie Paddock, Beth Hill, Sue (Richard) Reilly, Teri Bailey, and Jenny Bailey; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Though we will miss him dearly, we take comfort in knowing he is reunited with Chris. His warmth and deep love for others will continue to inspire us and live on in all of us.In light of the unfortunate timing of his passing so quickly after his wife, the family has decided it best to keep his service private and set at a later date.
