John Richard Peer

Mr. John Richard Peer, 88, of Columbia, SC passed away peacefully in his home on April 22,
2026. Born in Toledo, OH he was a son to the late John J. Peer and Angeline S. Peer.
After serving as a United States Marine, he worked and retired from Allied Signal. After
retirement, he co-owned Orangeburg Auto Paint and spent time with his loved ones.
He will be remembered as a family man. He valued hard work, honesty, and good jokes. His
favorite place was Lake Murray, where he enjoyed boating, fishing, and sitting on the porch with
his wife watching the boats pass by. He made it a priority to gather with his family for any
occasion. He enjoyed playing card games, watching Gamecock football, summer cookouts and
listening to oldies music.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he is survived by his loving wife
of 67 years, Florence K. Peer, daughter, Cynthia (Steve) Vickers, sons, John R. Peer Jr,
Douglas (Shari) Peer, Mario (Ivy) Peer, grandchildren, Ashley (Andrew) Renfroe, Christopher
Peer, Brittany (Mikey) Byrd, Chaz (Brittany) Peer, Candice Peer, Crystal (John) Mustard, 10
great-grandchildren, sister, Doris (Marion) Wright, and brother, Christopher (Bonnie) Peer.
A private service will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026 at Bush River Memorial Gardens
