Marie H. Starnes

Marie Hinton Starnes, a resident of Lexington Medical Center Extended Care, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024. She was 84 years old. Marie was born in Greenwood, South Carolina, to Jesse Theodore and Lucille Finley Hinton on December 21, 1939. Marie was a graduate of Waxhaw High School in Waxhaw, North Carolina, where she was a member of the girls’ basketball team. Marie met her husband Wayne one day when he stopped by her family’s home to ask for directions. A love story began. Wayne and Marie Starnes were married for 65 years. Throughout her career, Marie worked for various state agencies. Marie was a long-time member of Union United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the “Spirited Singers Choir.” Marie loved watching Clemson football with her husband, Wayne. Marie is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Wayne C. Starnes; her son, W. Scott Starnes; her daughter and son-in-law, Julie S. and Darrin Kahl; and her grandchildren, Kelsie Kahl, Chris Starnes, Dalton Kahl, and Landon Kahl. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Patsy Hinton and Connie Mendez. Services will be on September 12, 2024. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 Service will be from 11:00-12:00 Memorials may be made in Marie’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
