It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Martena Ida (Fillmore) Estabrooks on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at the Lexington Medical Center, Columbia, South Carolina, USA at the age of 95.
She was born on May 21, 1931, in Sackville, New Brunswick. She was the daughter of the late Marion Ledonia (King) Fillmore and the late William Milford Fillmore. She married Lawrence Estabrooks on October 20, 1947.
Martena & Lawrence moved to Nova Scotia in 1960 where she started working in electronics at EMI Cossar. Then, they moved to New Hampshire, USA in March of 1967. There, Martena worked as an Electronic Engineering Technician on the Apollo 11 space craft, which landed the first humans on the moon. After her extensive career in electronics, she worked as a monitor for handicapped children. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with each child and their parents. She relocated to Irmo, South Carolina, USA in the fall of 2021 to be near her son, daughter-in-law and granddaughters.
Martena loved travelling the world with her late husband, Lawrence Estabrooks, which included England, Ireland, Germany, Aruba, Bermuda and Scotland. She loved spending time with her family and had many coffee breaks at Dunkin Donuts with her daughter Meredith.
She will be lovingly missed by her children, Sharon Fillmore, Austin (Janet), William (Ellen), Kenneth (Louise), Bruce (Donna) & Meredith Wheaton, many grandchildren, great grandchildren & great-great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Austin Estabrooks, her son, Austin Lawrence Estabrooks, her sister, Inez (Arnold) Tower & her brother, Cuttar (Margaret Ann) Fillmore.
Honoring Martena’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a graveside service at the Sackville Cemetery on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 @ 11:00 AM with Rev. Morris Mills officiating. Everyone is welcome to attend.
