A Mass celebrating the life of Mary Kathryn Freeman Dussault, 65, will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church in Columbia, SC.
Mary Kathryn passed away on August 8, 2026, with loved ones in Charleston, SC, one of her favorite places to be. She was born April 8, 1961, in Naperville, IL, the fifth child and only daughter to Karlene Therese Scott Freeman and Corwin Stuart Freeman Sr. She was predeceased by her parents; and her brothers, John P., Carl Michael and Corwin Jr.
Mary is survived by her four children: her eldest son, Alexander James Dussault and soon-to-be daughter-in-law, Cameron Haines Burger of New York, NY; her daughter, Mallory Marie Dussault Colegrove, son-in-law, Justin Garret Colegrove, and grandson, John Dale “JD” Colegrove of Myrtle Beach, SC; her son, Nicholas John Dussault of Los Angeles, CA; and her daughter, Jocelyn Kate Dussault of Newberry, SC; two brothers, Terrance (Cheryl) Freeman and Christopher (Nicole) Freeman both of Columbia, SC; two sisters-in-law, Cynthia Freeman of The Villages, FL and Nancy Freeman of Seattle, WA; and many nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends.
Mary was very passionate and proud of her education and career during that time in her life. Mary attended Naperville North High School in Naperville, IL. She went on to study criminal justice at Illinois State University and later obtained her Master of Social Work at Aurora University. Mary pursued a passionate career as a licensed social worker and child abuse investigator working with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services for many years following work as a juvenile probation officer.
Mary was a devoted Catholic and deeply rooted in her faith. She was a lover of life, laughing, good food, movies, music, traveling, adventure and being surrounded by her children, beloved grandson and loved ones.
On Mary’s final day, she told her children, “When my time comes, I will be okay. I have lived a great life, and I love all you kids.”
In remembrance, Mary’s children ask that when you see a sunrise and sunset, think of Mary and know in your heart that she is there with you and at peace.
Mary will rest eternally with her beloved mother at Bush River Memorial Gardens in Columbia, SC.
