WEST COLUMBIA— Maury JackWood, Jr., 63, passed away Monday, September 7, 2015.Born in Spartanburg County on August 23, 1952, he was the son of the late Maury Jack Wood and Docia Lee Brown Wood. Jack was a graduate of Woodruff High School in 1970.He worked as a diesel mechanic for over 30 years and enjoyed being a custodian at Saxe Gotha Elementary School for the past 3 years. While growing up, he attended Antioch Baptist Church in Enoree, SC.After moving to Columbia in 1977, he later attended Congaree Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years.Jack always had a smile on his face and was always “terrific.”He loved spending time with his family and friends, traveling, and lending a helping hand to others.He enjoyed the work he did in life and enjoyed the people that surrounded him. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Gail Wood; a daughter, Kathryn Wood (Jason) Brasington of West Columbia, a son, Kevin Brooks (Katy) Wood of West Columbia; a brother, Jerry Franklin (Mary Ann) Wood of Enoree, a sister, Jane Wood (Terry) Owens of Enoree, and three grandchildren, Claudia Brasington, Cavanaugh Brasington, and Carlisle Brasington. A Celebration of Jack’s Life will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 11am at Saxe Gotha Elementary School at 100 Bill Williamson Ct., Lexington, SC 29073. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online at https://www.stjude.org.
