Peggy Haselden Alexander, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 3, 2026, in Grayson, Georgia. Peggy was born in Hemingway, SC, to the late Augusta Caesar Haselden and Ora Snowden Haselden Bartell.
Peggy graduated from Hemingway High School and went on to Charleston to attend the Medical College of South Carolina School of Nursing. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1958 and then joined the Air Force as a Second Lieutenant, where she served for two years.
Peggy’s life was defined by her love for the Lord, her family, and the many people she cared for along the way. She met the love of her life, Robert N. Alexander (Bob), on a blind date while working at Duke University Medical Center. Their relationship was a testimony of God’s gift of marriage, reflecting persevering love, joy, sacrifice, and togetherness. Bob and Peggy remained by each other’s side until her final breath.
Family was at the heart of Peggy’s life. She was always there for her children cheering them on in their activities, celebrating their milestones, and fighting for them when necessary. She taught them the importance of family and made sure vacations, holidays, and time with extended family were a priority. Family beach trips and holidays spent together remain cherished traditions.
Peggy’s Christian faith was an important part of who she was. She lived her faith openly, serving in ministry and building deep, lifelong friendships wherever she lived. One of her greatest desires was to share the love of Christ with others so they, too, would experience the same profound joy she carried in her heart.
Peggy had a special gift for making people feel welcome and cared for. Her heart was always open, and she never met a stranger. She also had a creative spirit, a sense of adventure, and a wonderful mischievous streak. She loved painting, sewing, dancing, and even riding roller coasters. She enjoyed games and brought a fun, healthy dose of competitiveness to everything she played. Whether it was Bridge, Canasta, Scrabble, or a game of pool, Peggy loved the laughter, competition, and time together. Her thoughtfulness and creativity were especially evident at Christmas. One year, she painted a unique, personalized picture for each member of the family, carefully choosing something that reflected each person’s passions and interests.
Peggy was an excellent cook. Birthdays were always marked by a home baked and decorated cake, usually a Devil’s Food Cake with chocolate frosting or a 7-Up Pound Cake with lemon frosting (and a cookie covering the hole!). This is a tradition she continued for her family for as long as she was able. And everyone loved her chocolate chip cookies which always filled the cookie tin.
Peggy’s warmth, creativity, faith, and steadfast love touched so many lives. She will be deeply missed and forever loved and remembered by her family and all who knew her.
Peggy is survived by her loving husband, Bob; children, Rob (Becky), Mike (Mary Grace), and Sandy Lanclos (Damien); eight grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother, Wayne Haselden (Frances, predeceased); and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Pat Huggins, and Pat’s husband, Harry.
The family would like to express their heartfelt love and gratitude to all of the caregivers at Dogwood Forest (Waterstone) Assisted Living who have cared for and loved Peggy (and Bob) so well over the past two years. Their kindness and compassion have meant so much to the family.
In memory of Peggy, flowers for the service or memorial gifts to her home church, Chapin Presbyterian Church, or to Anchor Church, which faithfully ministered to Peggy during her time at Dogwood Forest, may be given. Chapin Presbyterian Church, 600 Old Lexington Hwy, Chapin, SC 29036. chapinpres.org or to Anchor Church ,P.O. Box 549, Grayson, GA 30017 anchrograyson.org
