Ruth Orman Smith


Ruth Orman Smith, 96, of Lake Wylie, SC, entered into eternal life on October 5, 2026. Ruth was born on September 7, 1930 in Jackson, Mississippi to the late Gertie Orman and Will Orman.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her husband, John Elmer Smith, and her sisters, Doris Orman Davis and Dorothy Orman Cole.

Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, grandmother and great grandmother and will be remembered for her love of basketball, particularly, the SC Lady Gamecocks. She loved all things shrimp, singing, and playing games with her beloved friend Jean Benedict. Her biggest love was spending time with her family.

Ruth is survived by her daughters Sandra Overton (Ed) and Bethany Hardin (Buddy), her granddaughter Tamara Bostick (Dave), and her great grandchildren Allison Bostick, Tyler Bostick, Ford Dewar, Smythe Dewar, Collins Dewar and Cole Dewar.

A visitation will be held at Bush River Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow the service at Bush River Memorial Gardens.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Sunflower Springs Assisted Living Center and Agape Hospice for the loving care and support they offered during our mother’s last months on this earth.
