Shari Sanford, lovingly known to all as Shay, passed away at the age of 65. She will be remembered for her warmth, devotion, and spirited love of life. Shay spent more than forty years in the mortgage banking industry, where her professionalism, dedication, and genuine care for others made a lasting impact on colleagues and clients alike.

Shay had a heart for animals, especially Boykin Spaniels. She was a proud member of the Boykin Spaniel Society and actively supported Boykin Spaniel Rescue, giving her time and energy to the wellbeing of the breed she adored. Her commitment to community extended beyond her love for dogs—Shay was also involved with the South Carolina Republican Party, contributing her voice and efforts to causes she believed in.

An outdoor enthusiast, Shay found peace in nature and loved visiting any beach, embracing the sun, sand, and ocean with joy. She and her husband, Dudley, shared a passion for travel, exploring many places together and creating memories that will forever be treasured.

Shay was predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Margaret Whisonant.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Dudley Sanford; her sister Beth Green and Beth’s husband Jim; her brother Chuck Whisonant and his wife Sharon; her sister-in-law Sandra Williams, wife of the late Johnny Williams; and her brother-in-law Tim Sanford and his wife Julie. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Shay remained close to her lifelong friends, especially Judy and Rick Manzer, whose friendship and support meant the world to her. She nurtured relationships that spanned decades, and her loyalty, humor, and generous spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Pallbearers will be her nephews: Wesley Williams, Benton Thompson, Bradley Thompson, Drew Williams, Blake Thompson, and John Patrick Williams.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 17th at 2:00 PM at Bush River Funeral Home in Columbia, South Carolina. A second service will follow on Tuesday, July 21st at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mobile, Alabama, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow the Mass at Pine Crest Cemetery West. Family and friends are invited to attend either service to honor Shay’s life and legacy.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Shay’s memory may be made to Boykin Spaniel Rescue, 112 Hunter Ridge Dr., Spartanburg, SC 29316.

Her presence will be deeply missed, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who loved her.
