It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Steve Dalton, who passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at the age of 65 in Columbia, SC where he lived.
Steve was born on October 11, 1960, in Akron, Ohio and graduated from Kenmore High School. Throughout his life, he was known for his kind heart, ornery spirit, and unwavering love for his family, friends and music. He had a way of making those around him laugh and feel welcomed, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Fleming) Dalton, his sisters, Janine Dalton and Laura Dalton; and many cherished nephews, nieces and great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Juanita Dalton; his brothers, David “Dinky” Dalton, Denny Dalton, and Paull Dalton; and his sisters Lisa (Dalton) Stewart and Karen Dalton.
Steve was an avid animal lover and rescued many dogs throughout his life. His beloved companions, Hannah and Tyson, brought him endless joy and were treasured members of his family.
Music was not simply a hobby for Steve—it was part of who he was. A gifted bassist, he found his greatest happiness playing alongside his friends and bandmates, Jimmy Camilli and Phelix Van Deras of MetalBox, and Kimi Daly of Split Decision. Whether performing or simply spending time together, those friendships meant the world to him. He also cherished the lifelong friendship of his best friend, PJ Fagan.
A Celebration of Life will be held later in lieu of a traditional funeral service. Steve’s ashes will be laid to rest in his hometown of Akron, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) or a local animal shelter in Steve’s honor, reflecting his lifelong compassion for animals.
Although our hearts are broken, we take comfort in the love, laughter, music, and countless memories Steve shared with us. His legacy of kindness, strength, and his unmistakable talent as one hell of a bass player will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed, forever loved and always remembered.
