William David Barton

William David Barton, 69, of Gilbert, passed away peacefully at home in the early hours of April 24, 2026,
surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. He was a devoted
husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend and was loved fiercely by all who knew him.
David was born on January 28, 1957, in Benton Harbor, Michigan, where he became an avid Michigan fan.
Years after his move to South Carolina he met the love of his life, Sherree Hensley. Together, they shared a
bond that was truly special-one rooted in deep love, unwavering devotion, and a partnership that stood the test
of time.
David and Sherree were married in February of 1983 and went on to welcome their daughter, Courtney
Hensley, and their son, David Grayson. David’s life was centered around his family, and he found his greatest
joy and purpose in loving them. He was also a world traveler, embracing opportunities, exploring more than 50
countries, and creating lasting memories along the way with his friends and family.
David is survived by his loving wife, Sherree Hensley Barton; his daughter, Courtney Hensley Barton Ingle
(Rob Ingle); and his son, David Grayson Barton (Lori Sandburg Barton). He is also survived by his five
cherished grandchildren, Gracen Hensley Ingle, Addison Calvin Ingle, Ronan Kinsale Barton, Hurlee William
Barton, and Cian Bray Barton.
He is further survived by his siblings, brother Bobby Barton and sister Janet Long, as well as his
brothers-in-laws, Michael Mallory, Paul Hensley, and Wayne Linguiti and sisters-in-law, Paula Mallory, Una
Hensley, and Ann Linguiti along with numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made in David’s honor to St. Jude
Children’s Research Hospital. The family will receive friends at Bush River Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River
Road, Columbia, on Monday, April 27th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. In keeping with David’s wishes, no formal
service will be held.
